The Government has published further guidance on the extended Furlough Scheme, which we blogged about earlier this month. Key points arising out of the further guidance include that:
- Employers can continue to claim for periods ending on or before 31 October 2020 until the deadline on 30 November 2020;
- There is no maximum number of employees that employers can claim for from 1 November 2020;
- It may be possible to claim for employees serving out their notice periods, and the Government will change the approach in respect of claim periods starting on or after 1 December 2020.
The Government has indicated that it will provide further guidance (including on the notice point) in late November. Confirmation that employers can claim for employees serving notice would no doubt be very welcome news for numerous employers who initiated redundancy processes in advance of the original anticipated end date of the furlough scheme back in October this year.
