Bias. Prejudice. Social inequality. Lack of diversity. All live and kicking concerns in recruitment but, if AI’s advocates are to be believed, soon to be extinguished. Proponents of AI in the recruitment industry suggest that it will remove unfair but influential factors - like what school we went to, who we know, even our gender - from the recruitment process, or at least get deserving candidates who would otherwise have been overlooked through to interview rounds. But significant doubts have been raised in the industry, in particular how we eliminate bias embedded into the AI tools themselves, via the data used to train them. Perhaps a step in the right direction, but even some of AI's strongest supporters concede that it may not be possible to eliminate all bias from the hiring process.
